Vintage GE school clock / Vintage fluted pie dish with removable bottom
Vintage (1930’s ?) toaster / Vintage Pyrex/corning blue glass measuring cups

Just a few things I’ve been collection over the past few weeks…

Home goods are my new favorite thing to thrift. I love weeding out the bad/cheap/useless and bringing it the new(old)/charming/lasts forever items that have already survived a couple of decades.  It just makes home feel more homey. I’ve accumulated a lot of not so hot kitchen stuff over the years – that’s just what happens in your 20s. You buy what you can afford. but this spring, I plan to do a big purge and have less/better.

Ok first things first – Am I the only one in LOVE with this old general electric school clock? The giant unavoidable ugly wire just adds to its charm. The (amazingly blue) seconds hand doesn’t tick, it’s just one smooth fluid motion, constantly turning, occasionally hypnotizing bob. I never thought I would love having a giant clock on my wall but I DO! Since I rarely wear watches anymore, my phone is my time-teller at all hours of the day. And I really don’t need another reason to be constantly looking at my phone. Plus now when I wake up in the morning, panicked that I slept through my alarm, one quick glance at the clock confirms I can calm down and go back to sleep (or curse myself and run like mad).

And in close second place (in the importance of this post scale), my new toaster! When I moved into my 500 square foot apartment 3 years ago, I decided to leave the ugly toaster and the stupid microwave behind. There just wasn’t enough space – plus I hate microwaving food. The broiler setting on my oven was my toaster. Needless to say, a few pieces of bread did meet an untimely black fiery death. Minus the fire. Anyhoo, lately I had been keeping a (lazy) eye out for space efficient toasters. So when I spotted this fire hazard vintage toaster at a flea market a few weeks ago, I really couldn’t pass it up. The unfortunate fact that you have to unplug it to turn it off is overshadowed by it’s cuteness. Don’t judge me.

Last but not least, this weekend I found the 2 pyrex/corning glass measuring bowls – perfect replacements for my broken and/or slightly melted plastic measuring cups. And they’re blue! Also found – this fluted metal tart dish with a removable bottom – how cool is that? Need to bake something in there STAT.
