Ok it’s official. I am addicted to estate sales. After I popped my estate sale cherry a few weeks ago, I signed up for the organizer’s mailing list and every week I get an email with directions and information to that weekend’s sale. I used to always think estate sales were an interesting idea, but that I didn’t want to spend my weekends getting up at the crack of dawn for a chance at the good stuff.

Turns out that even if you arrive in the afternoon, there are still some good things to be found. It’s like the holy grail of thrifting. Well 2nd place after finding something in the garbage on the side of the road – cuz free wins over everything else. Estate sales are like the pure way of buying someone’s else’s stuff. There is a bit of sadness at the thought of rifling through someone’s home – someone who recently died or just can’t take care of themselves anymore. It’s not like a garage sale where people get rid of their crap. This is the stuff people want to KEEP but just can’t anymore. Buying an item out of its original spot in someone’s home tells so much more about that item’s story. You get a feeling for the previous owner’s life, beliefs and which decade they refused to let go of.

This saturday’s estate sale had so much I wanted but I had to hold back a little or I would have emptied my wallet. (Rather Matt’s wallet since I had no cash on me, I paid him back!!) On top of the items above, I also took home a large needlepoint picture and a bust on a wooden stand.

I’m moving in a few weeks and can’t wait to fill my new kitchen with great vintage pieces. While doing a little jig in those dancing shoes.
