WEEKEND MOMENTS

Happy Monday all! We’re almost in August, isn’t that a little sad? It feels like we only just finally started getting summer weather and now it’s half over.

Friday night, we visited the Just for Laughs festival to eat from one of the 20 food trucks present. Food trucks are a new thing in the city (they were banned for 60 years up until recently) so we all get really excited about eating food standing up around here. The crowds were too much for us but I wanted to eat so I got a beet & fried goat cheese “burger” from Lucky’s food truck and topped it off with an ice cream cup covered in pretzel and caramel sauce from Monsieur Cremeux. Both were satisfying but a little pricey and nothing I would write home about.

On Saturday we got up extra early, grabbed some coffees and breakfast to go and spent the morning walking, ending up at Le Sain Bol for brunch. One of my favourite places to eat in the city, they offer up a (changing) menu of local and organic dishes. They can easily accommodate vegetarians and the place is small and cozy.

On Sunday, my pole class was canceled so I met up with Matt and we headed to the Jean Talon Market to snack on food and buy some local produce for dinner. When I was a kid, I used to love going to Costco mainly because of the sample tables. The market is like that but so much better because you can taste the fruits and vegetables, not some processed frozen dish filled with god knows what.

We went to Matt’s parents’ place on Sunday afternoon. He and his mom cooked up some fish with a mango avocado salsa and I made some vegetarian chickpea croquettes to substitute the fish while his dad prepared us bloody caesars to sip on while we cooked. Then we all enjoyed the fruits of our labour with a bottle of wine.

Another successful summer weekend.
