As I mentioned, M & I went to the Just for Laughs Festival Friday night to check out the street food selection and have a bite to eat. Since street food is not even technically legal in Montreal (this summer is a pilot project) we definitely are more excited about eating a meal standing up than a lot of other cities who have gotten over the novelty aspect of street food.
After the Souk at the festival last year, they upped the game with a total of 40 food trucks present during the 2 week festival.
I have to be honest with you, I was a little disappointed. Maybe my hopes were too high after really enjoying last year’s (smaller) street food selection. The trucks were kind of shoved in a corner of the festival this year and it was sometimes discouraging altogether considering pushing your way through the crowds. The food I tasted was good but it didn’t taste amazing either. I was very happy with the amount of vegetarian options, I had a few to choose from.
Nonetheless, I am still very happy we finally have street food in Montréal. The weather Friday night was perfect, I was well fed and I love any reason to spend the evening outdoors – especially when food and drinks are involved. Oh and the beer was good.
Well the photos are amazing anyway… and that beet burger looks pretty darn tasty :)
It was tasty! But could have used a few more ingredients in it to make it more filling and textured. Maybe some walnuts for a bit of crunch.
