PROJECT | S+S WEDDING INVITATIONS

A few months ago I had to pleasure of working on my sister’s wedding stationary. I don’t take on a lot of side projects because of my schedule but I love having a change of scenery from my day to day design projects at my full time job.

When I first suggested to my sister that I design her wedding invitations, she wasn’t quite convinced that it was necessary. What can I say, we Leclercs like to do everything ourselves! But I convinced her that she should take advantage of the fact that she had a sibling who was a graphic designer and then set to work in my sketchbook.

I knew I wanted to work with the themes of the wedding day; the colour purple and orchid flowers. I can now officially draw orchids with my eyes closed. I played around with their matching initials for the design and the idea was a hit with the couple. For a complimentary colour, I tried to match the beige from the bridesmaid dresses. Although I proposed a few different design ideas, they chose the simplest of the 3, clean and simple with a slight feminine touch. We made matching RSVP postcards to send out with the invitations and I spent an afternoon stamping, licking and folding with a glass of wine.

I really enjoyed working on this project, seeing it grow from my little sketches and doodles into the final product. And it’s always a bonus when I get to show family members exactly what I do for a living.
