As I mentioned a few posts ago, I recently visited Le Sain Bol for breakfast. This was my second time there after going once in spring. It is somewhere I would not hesitate to return to, yet I almost like that it feels like a little hidden gem I possibly imagined and I wouldn’t want to ruin the magic by going back every week. In a part of town I had never really explored, Le Sain Bol is tiny, modest and easily missed. Unless you have cool friends who bring you to exciting trendy places in the city! They don’t even have coffee (just a delicious chai latte) but don’t fret, they share a door with the cafe next door incase you can’t get through your morning on chai alone.
As a vegetarian, sometimes my choices are very limited in great restaurants but it’s not the case here. The chef uses mostly local, organic and seasonal ingredients (did you just swoon too?). And to top it all off, the ‘restaurant’ – if you can call it that, as it more closely resembles a dining room and kitchen in a house – is cozy and personal.
We both decided to go for the surprise breakfast which the chef informed me could accommodate any food allergies or restrictions we might have. I mentioned I was a vegetarian and I trusted him completely. I even accepted mushrooms, I’m trying to train myself to like them.
The (veggie) plate consisted of a baked sweet potato, goat cheese omelet, quinoa with mushrooms in a mustard sauce, a goat cheese sun-dried tomato grilled cheese AND a yogourt granola parfait. If that wasn’t enough, the breakfast ‘desert’ was a plate of their delicious french toast with (if I’m not mistaken) a tofu puree and apple topping topped with – of course – maple syrup.
It was the perfect kind of full, where you don’t feel sick and disgusting but rather full and satisfied.
I haven’t been for lunch or dinner (YET) but I am sure they are memorable experiences as well.
