Matt and I have a new little tradition to bring our moms together for mother’s day to bond over their love for wine their children. And to date my favorite way to picnic is southern food in little Italy. That’s right.
Dinette Triple Crown is a cute little spot that serves your classic southern food. They had the brilliant idea to offer the picnic experience without all the hassle of cooking and packing a basket. The restaurant is accross the street from a park so if you ask, they will prepare your order to go in a picnic basket, red checkered tablecloth and all. They provide all the essentials; dishes, cutlery and BBQ sauce.
Our little group of 5 ordered a feast: fried chicken, brisket, hush puppies, black eyed peas with rice, fried sweet potato, fiddlehead salad, biscuits, cornbread and of course, for me – a big old plate of mac n cheese. We brought along a couple of bottles of wine and prayed the rain would hold up long enough for us to finish lunch. It was a success and I’m already looking forward to mac and cheese and wine next year. Or heck, maybe just next week.
