It feels like just yesterday that I was talking about my move to a new apartment but it was in fact a whole year ago. Here we are again (Bob the cat and I) – moving! This time though, we got us a gem.

The last apartment I moved into was – in my mind – going to be a step up from my charmless newly renovated apartment on a busy and loud street. However I soon discovered it was almost completely lacking day light (and let’s not forget the ever-lurking landlord watching us and falsely accusing). So when the spring rolled around and the decision to stay or move again came up, I decided to see what was out there. Which translates to me hitting refresh on the craigslist page every 3o seconds.

When I stumbled upon this listing and saw that it had a closed bedroom (which I haven’t had for the past 4 years) on top of an exposed brick, I knew I wanted to visit. I was luckily the first to visit and I filled out that application form fast as lightning.  After a little drama with finding a tenant to take over my current lease, I was set to move! I had both apartments for the month of April  – Ouch bank account but amazing for my sanity while moving and purging. We were able to paint all the walls, I found new pieces of furniture to match my love for mid-century and sold some of my old furniture I couldn’t keep to compensate for the 2 rents to pay.

I was able to move everything I LOVED into the new place first then sorted through the rest to see what I wanted and needed. We moved the last of the boxes last night and all that is left is to clean out the fridge, pack up the things to donate and sweep up. Unfortunately the apartment no longer looks like the above photo – taken about 2 weeks ago – as every square inch is now covered in the remainder of the boxes. However the photos are a good reminder of the potential minimalism of the space and how calming it was.

Lots of work to do in the upcoming weeks but I’m really enjoying all the projects to improve the space. It’s great to pretend to be an interior decorator and stylist for a little while.
