Lately, I gravitate mostly toward neutral colours and versatile pieces when getting dressed or browsing the local Salvation Army. I’m constantly trying to simplify and reduce my wardrobe and I feel most comfortable in neutrals – despite my love for all things weird.

I wore these outfits on Saturday. I’ve already mentioned I love these pants. I paired them with a plain linen sleeveless top and flats for shopping at the market – then I switched it up with some heels and a vintage top and clutch for dinner out later that evening.

As I visit thrift stores and add more and more neutrals, classic cuts and lasting materials to my closet, I start to rethink the pieces that I rarely take out of the drawer or off the hanger. I think about getting rid of pieces until I usually stop myself and think ‘what if I have THE perfect outfit idea in a month – but I got rid of that top last week??’. Except that’s not a healthy reason to hold on to things. Because that item of clothing (or really any other belonging) will most likely stay a What if for a long time. And I would rather fill my closet with clothes I could wear every day, not just when the inspiration might hit me.

I constantly dream of a day when getting dressed  is a simple equation,  A+B+C. Like all great things, it is a long process – but I do feel it’s getting better every day. Little by little I pick up timeless pieces and discard the old trendier things. I’m trying to embrace a more minimalist wardrobe and I think days like this (above) – where I can just switch up a few items for different occasions – are a great example of what I want more of.

  • I like this day to night one!! Those are really nice black pants and they fit you just right. Nice pictures and of course your writing too. Good work on both of them.
