cheap thrills

Another day, another white wall. Or rather, the same one. I picked up these 2 pieces for THREE DOLLARS, yes I yelled that. I was on my way back from a dentist appointment when I made a quick impromptu thrift stop. When I saw these Guess/Marciano leather ankle boots, I stopped breathing while I tried them on. You know, just in case I breathed too heavily and they decided to evaporate, change sizes… etc?

I have been looking for these kinds of boots for YEARS. They are always gigantic (I wear size 6/7) and most of the time men’s. But these were a size 7 and when I got to the cash and heard 3,45$ for the hat and boots, I thought ok did she say 300 or 3 dollars? And then I paid and ran the hell out of there before they realized they were crazy. He had to go upstairs to get change for my 20$ so the tension in me lasted a good 5 minutes.

These boots remind me of my dad. And Anthony Bourdain. If I had a mantle, that’s where these would go.

I don’t really gravitate towards Guess brand items (though I did get a pair of guess jeans at a clothing swap that I love dearly) but the look of these is what caught my attention before I read the label, a label that confirmed they didn’t come out of this decade or the last. I also did a quick check of where they were made and was pleased as punch that they were made in Spain, not in China. All this combined explained my lack of breathing during the inspection and walk to the counter to pay. It feels so good to be searching for an item for so long and to be rewarded with a high quality version for A BUCK FIFTY (+ 15cents tax). This is why I avoid mall shops like the plague, they make you stop appreciating the good stuff because everything is cheap and within reach in every shape, size and color. It takes the excitement out of shopping.

Moving on… this tuque… i wouldn’t have bought it alone but since i found the boots I figured i’d throw in a hat (made in Canada) that matched my eyes. Never too many winter hats here in Montreal. Especially of the fluorescent variety.

As soon as the weather heats up I  plan on wearing this hat, the boots, some skinny black jeans and a white graphic t-shirt. Maybe some temporary tattoos and some popeye cigarettes to complete the outfit.
