This was probably my first time ever participating in any Oktoberfest festivities. We got tickets at the very last minute to spend an afternoon at Beau’s Beer’s Oktoberfest about an hour drive outside Montreal. The sun was shining and we quickly shed our sweaters and sipped different beers, watching people walk by and enjoying the German dances and music.
Matt’s a big fan of Beau’s and has been to the beer themed festival for the past few years. Your day ticket comes with a free beer and warm salty pretzel. There were competitions (oh you know, the usual keg toss), games and even a kids area where you could ship off your little ones while you got drunk! (kidding – maybe?)
There was tons of food booths from local restaurants, Matt and I shared a vegetarian “Brisk’aint” sandwich with an apple cider slaw from The Branch Restaurant and texas grill table. It’s always a treat to have a veggie option that fits in the theme of an event or festival and I was very thankful. We really need a texas grill restaurant in Montreal with vegetarian and vegan options! Someone needs to get on that.
It was a great way to spend an afternoon – though I’ve heard past years required many layers and rain-proof clothing so I was lucky to have unseasonably warm weather for October!
