AVOCADO BABY – THE BIRTH STORY

avo1_2

I’m finally trying my hand at growing an avocado from scratch. This initiative to stray from my usual maybe-next-time-or-i’ll-just-ask-my-mom reasoning was sadly not a change of my lazy ways. It was pure happy accident when the oversized avocado pit I had neglected on my counter – awaiting the trash can – cracked on its own. When I finally got around to picking it up to throw out, I noticed it was cracked and there was a little bud growing inside.

I stabbed that little guy with a few toothpicks and propped him sitting lightly on top of a jar of water – because that’s what my mom does and I was too lazy to google how to. I figured I hadn’t invested much energy in it, there was no pressure to have it work.

It’s hard to say now – 11 days later – wether this project is succeeding or not. It seems to be growing and it better be, because I bought this giant avocado planning to make guacamole only to cut it in half and find the entire thing browned. So it owes me one avocado so I can finally make my guacamole.

I love how the pit looks like a little brain… but then again I might just be watching too much Fringe these days.

  • Looks good Em!!! Just remember to keep water in the jar. Good luck with it. Maybe you should have called it ‘Lucky Avo’ ;) but Avo 1.2 is good too ;)
