I don’t know if glamping is the right term for the weekend we spent at a little cottage in Labelle, Quebec. We slept in a cabin, had running water, a shower and a sauna… but it was still pleasantly rustic.
I thought it would be a great idea to plan a group camping trip when my sister and her fiance would be in town this past july and once I convinced everyone that 3 days without proper running water would not kill them, we booked a little cottage on airbnb. I knew this place was a hidden gem as soon as it popped up in my results. Just 2 hours from Montreal, it was a perfect little escape into nature. Once you survived the 10 minute trek up hill with a cooler full of food and a few cases of beer, that is.
We made fires to cook, to heat the water for the shower, to steam up the sauna and to just plain make fire. We cooked lots of eggs for breakfast, chilli mac & cheese for dinner, hot dogs, campfire nachos and of course s’mores with flaming marshmallows for dessert. We hiked to a beautiful view where we enjoyed a picnic as a reward for making it to the top despite a few wrong turns.
We came back with bruises, burns and many a bug bite – but it was in the name of roughing it for a weekend. Well you know, glam-roughing it.
There is just nothing like being out there in the woods. Beautiful nature, good food, great people. Thanks for giving me a little camping feeling!
