• Vintage Wool Le Chateau Jacket – thrifted by my aunt. Looking up the history of this Montreal based store really makes me sad that so many fashion companies started small with great quality and eventually started importing everything from China, sacrificing a quality name for themselves. Many of us shopped at Le Chateau in high school but did you know that they have been around since the 60s? It’s true. I love the shape and fit of this jacket my aunt found (she volunteers at a second-hand store and brings us goodies she finds – thanks Billie!!!) and I love the fact that it’s wool and made in Canada.
• Vintage Canada Tuque – church sale. I feel like this hat just represents where I live so well. Though there a lot of seperatists in Montreal, I wear this hat with pride. When I spotted it at the church sale a little while back, I think I stopped breathing up until the point that it was safely clutched in my hands. Also made in Canada.
• Knitted Ski Sweater – thrift store in San Diego. I found it ironic that the canadian bought a ski sweater in sunny california. This bad boy came home with me after visiting friends last February.
• Coach bag – vintage store in LA. Another piece I found in California. Fellow fashion blogger and sweetheart Paige and I went on an afternoon of thrift store shopping (There were so many thrift stores just on one block. It’s unfortunate that the recession has forced more people to shop second hand out of need, but I am still happy clothes are getting a second chance instead of ending up in landfills)
• Guess jeans – clothing swap. I found these last summer at the Take off your clothes clothing swap. It coincided with me getting in better shape and the unfortunate side effect of my jeans not really fitting anymore. So I donated a bag full of clothes I wouldnt wear anymore, and brought home a bag of ‘new’ things (like that plaid skirt from the last shoot). I recommend trying a clothing swap event if you can, you never know what you will find. And if you find nothing, at least you made some space in your closet.
• Mukluk boots – deadstock from a vintage sale. The last 5 years, I’ve had quite a love affair with moccasins. I’ve sold a few in the shop but I think I had about 6 pairs at one time. I’m getting better at controlling my shopping impulses. These however will be staying, they are just too perfect for our winters.
• Leather gloves – church sale. Had these for years and probably paid 1$ for them.
• Lace earrings – This Ilk. Always happy to support the handmade community – especially from artists right here in Montreal. My favorite pair of earrings. I love long earrings with short hair and these are just so light.
Eco Style posts are outfits consisting of entirely second-hand, vintage, handmade or local items. I hope to encourage people to shop with a greener footprint. All photos by Pierre Bourgault
i love these eco style posts! {more! more!} and you look beautiful. i love seeing your mug. i can’t believe that you’re walking down the middle of the street like that! i’d be so embarrassed – ha!
Thank you! I’ve got more planned for the future, it’s crazy to think about how many outfits I can make up with all the thrifted stuff already in my closet.
Well it was a university campus so the traffic was minimal. I didn’t even think about it though, maybe I was too busy focusing all my energy on not freezing to death :)
you look GORGEOUS in these pics!!!!! And I love the knitted sweater.
Man I miss Montreal.
