Camping 2019 – Forêt Ouareau

Our first camping trip of 2019! I think my favourite part of camping is the cooking(eating) aspect and I believe these photos show that clearly...

However this trip, we didn't just eat! We decided to embark on a 11 km hike (7 miles) up to see the suspended bridge in the national park we were camping in. We both greatly underestimated the time it takes to hike that distance but once we were a few kilometers in, we had to keep going. We made a few stops along the way to enjoy the view of the river (and rest our blistering feet) with some snacks. The trail was even flooded at one point and we had to take our boots off to wade through the water in order to get to the other side. If it weren't for Matt, I probably would have turned around because the thought of taking off my boots and socks and then putting them back on was very daunting to me! But we did it and I was very proud of us when we made it to the bridge, which was not that exciting but symbolized our accomplishment.

So if you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen my pregnancy announcement (If we can call it that, had to let the news out eventually). I wasn't sure how camping would be while 5 months pregnant but it went surprisingly well. Other than our very noisy camping neighbours (who stayed up late playing guitar and talking about 10 feet away from our tent) who didn't help the fact I already wake up multiple times per night, things went smoothly. I survived the long hike and brought lots of snacks to keep me satisfied throughout the day.

Our camping spot was right by the river, a great backdrop while we sat down by the fire in the evening. We made veggie dogs with cauliflower salad, our usual chilli mac and cheese, eggs and potatoes and french toast with beyond meat sausage. After the sun went down, we toasted marshmallows for s'mores. I tried to teach Matt all my marshmallow cooking wisdom but he preferred his own techniques (no comment!).

I would definitely go back to this campground, assuming we would get luckier with the neighbours next time. We will see if we can fit in another camping trip before my belly gets too big to move around properly, there are always glamping experiences to be had. Maybe we need to make another visit to this place we visited in 2017.
