STREET ART | SAN FRANCISCO

SF-art-3

Our airbnb cottage was located right on Balmy alley so every morning we stepped out into a street filled with latino street art from the 70s and 80s. Much of it representing a protest of US intervention in Central America.

One of my favorites – and most likely many others’ – is the women’s building (second set of photos from the top). Painted in the 90s by a group of women – to represent women through time and around the world. It’s hard to gage the magnitude of this work of art from a photo but trust me when I say that it is impressive.

There were many other pieces around the city (especially in the mission district) but I chose to show my favorites (and of course – girl power!). I love the use of contrast and bright colours in the style of these. And the last piece, we saw every day as we left our cottage during the week. The Women with Chains is definitely at the top of my list. It’s a strong representation of the strength of women.
